Interview with Damian Widera

Microsoft MVP | EUVIC

Tell us a few things about yourself. Where did you study, where do you work?

I was born in Poland and this is the place where I live now. I finished my studies long long time ago but it was fantastic time. I studied at Silesian Technical University which is one of the best in Poland. I work for Euvic (previously named LGBS) for over 8 years. This is also fantastic time. I started my work in the company when it was quite small. Now we are among one of the biggest companies in Poland but one thing has not changed – the great culture of the work. After all these years I really love to wake up in the morning and come to work!

What is your typical day at work?

I have project with both Polish and foreign customers I start quite early trying to do all tough things in the morning. I usually do a break during the day to spend my time with the family and also trying to work for PLSSUG = Polish SQL Server Users Group. I usually spend some time learning during late evening and night

What inspired you to be active in the community?

Short possible answer ever – people! Great people!

After all these years I really love to wake up in the morning and come to work!

Try to find your passion in IT. Find your area of interest and join a community. That is the best resource you can have!

Are there any things you wish you knew at the beginning of your career?

Yes – I wish I had the knowledge I have now when I was 20

Could you recommend some books, resources that young IT professionals might find useful?

What you do to “recharge your batteries”? What are your hobbies? Do you have time for them?

I wish I had more time…. I like hiking and try to do it regularly. I also love to take my bike and spend an hour a day. But the best is to spend & recharge the body in sauna

If you could go back in time and choose a different profession (outside of IT), what would it be?

Quantum physicist. This is also one of my hobby and great passion

What do you think about ITCamp, and what brings you here?

I have heard about this conference from my friends from Poland who already were there. I just wanted to be a speaker here and it is really a big challenge but also a fun for me. I would like to spend my time with great people that love to share knowledge!
